SCP Fluoride plus™ is imported from England and is an all in one filter that removes virtually all impurities BUT NOT PFAS and lasts 6 to 9 months, please see SCP Fluoride Plus™ for more information.  This filter removes far more impurities than the Doulton Super Sterasyl including fluoride and heavy metals. As this filter is only 5 inches tall it will fit all purifiers manufactured by Southern Cross Pottery as well as most other brands of gravity filtration systems including Durand, Waterloo, Austalis, Village Pottery , Sean Nicholson Clay and Peter Wallace Pottery.

(Size:  70mm x 127mm)

See SCP FLuoride Plus™ Fact Sheet for more information.

SCP Fluoride Plus™

2000 litre or 6 to 12 months* / flow rate 1 litre per hour / 5 inch x 70mm wide

Fluoride Plus™ filter elements, manufactured in England and imported by Southern Cross Pottery, utilize a class leading silver impregnated ceramic micro porous outer shell combined with state of the art granular core technology which removes fluoride plus virtually all other contaminants.

Fluoride Plus™ is made from the highest quality NSF component certified (ANSI 61) coconut shell based activated carbon and other proprietary adsorbent materials. The ceramic shell and the granular carbon combines mechanical filtration and physical absorption processes to reduce a wide variety of drinking water contaminants of both aesthetic and health concerns. The pore structure of the ceramic enables sufficient contact time for the filter to be ideally suited to improving taste and odour as well as reducing chlorine, chloramine, volatile organic compounds, MTBE, lead, mercury, asbestos, arsenic and fluoride. The cleanable ceramic shell is designed to remove suspended solids, pathogenic bacteria and cysts. The Fluoride Plus filter has been tested in accordance with NSF protocols for cyst, turbidity, particulates, lead, chloramines and chlorine reduction.

CONTAMINANT REMOVALS:

Step 1 Place the sealing washer over the threaded mount, if you have been provided with two washers than the first over the threaded mount and the second on the underside of the filter container. The washer (s) are designed to make a seal of the filter forcing the water through the filter nozzle and not the container.

Step 2 Install the filter candle into the hole in the filter container (or upper chamber) and secure with wing-nut. Do not over tighten. Carefully place container into the top opening of the water container, remove lid and leave on benchtop.

Step 3 Ensure the tap is in the OFF position. Fill the upper chamber with water and allow the water to filter into the lower chamber. This initial flow will take time as the filter needs to fully saturate with water. Flow will improve after the initial flushing. Place lid on top of filter container.

Step 4 After the water has run through, open the tap and empty the lower chamber. Discard the first supply of water.

OPERATION

The flow rate of these filters will gradually reduce due to a build up on the outer surface of sediment or any type of particulate build up, this is normal and in fact indicates that the filter is working perfectly. When this occurs the flow rate can be restored by removing the filter from the upper chamber and gently scrubbing the surface of the ceramic with a soft brush or a green scouring pad from the super market under cool running water. Never use any soaps or detergents. Once cleaned it is not necessary to discard any water as you would have done in the initial set up. These filters should be checked on a regular basis to ensure that they are operating properly. Cleaning your filter may be required more often if your source of water is anything other than municipal water which has already gone through some filtration.

TROUBLESHOOTING

If your filter is not working or has slowed down most likely it needs to be cleaned, please refer to OPERATION above.

If your filter is 9 months or older it probably needs to be replaced if it has slowed down significantly and cleaning it makes no difference.

Occasionally when a filter is brand new (and sometimes within the life of the filter) there is an air lock preventing the water from filtering at a normal rate. This can easily be rectified by removing the filter from the upper chamber and placing it overnight in a pot of water with the white ceramic submerged and the plastic thread exposed to the air. In the morning remove filter and re-install.

SMALL SPECKS OF CARBON IN THE WATER

Small specks of activated carbon may appear in your water in the initial days of operation. This material is completely harmless and will disappear with use. This is in part why most manufactures suggest that you discard the first few litres of water.

METALLIC TASTE

When the water first interacts with the carbon media on the inside of the ceramic filter there is a chemical reaction making the water a bit more alkaline and often customers note that there is a metallic taste to the water. This is perfectly normal and like the specks of carbon above this taste will disappear in a few days once the PH of the water returns to neutral. Again this is another reason why manufactures often suggest that you discard the first few litres of water. Slightly elevated levels of PH is in no way harmful and many consumers prefer water to be slightly alkaline; so it is perfectly safe to drink.
